The official online sequel to the Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic games is in production. In this article I will write about what can be expected and give the official link so you guys can view at your leisure.
What is Knights of the Old Republic.
I assume you all know what these games are, but in case you don’t I’ll inform you: Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR for easy use) is a series of offline RPG games set in the Star Wars Universe. It takes place roughly 4000 years before the start of Star Wars Episode I: A Phantom Menace.
About Knights of the Old Republic.
KOTOR tells the tale of the Sith Lord Darth Malak and Revan and their war against the Old Republic. As is common amongst the Sith, Malak, who was the apprentice, turned on his master and killed him. Or at least that is what everyone thought but I don’t want to spoil the story for you. The action in this game takes place on several planets and ships. Tatooine, Dantooine, Kashyyyk, Korriban, Manaan, Rakata Prime, and Taris; aboard the cruiser Endar Spire and the ship Leviathan. The KOTOR series has been applauded for introducing a lot of new planets that were never shown in the movies. A key part of the KOTOR series is of course the characters you play with. You can have Jedi in your team but you can also recruit Smugglers, Bounty Hunters and even droids. Another huge part of KOTOR is the Alignment. If you have played Fable you will know what I mean but it is basically a measurement of your in-game character. If for instance you see a man harassed by soldiers you can decide to help him out and get Good point. But you can also decide to join in on the harassment and reap the benefits of whatever the soldiers were after. This makes for a very changing gameplay as your Alignment will determine how other people look upon you and even how you look entirely. As I have said before these games take place during a war between Sith and the Old Republic. This means that it will not be uncommon for you to encounter Dark Jedi in battle. This is, of course, radically different from the movies where the Sith were extinct, save 2 or 3. The fun part of this is of course you will be able to do things you never knew were possible in the Star Wars Universe. The sequel is called Knights of the Old Republic 2: The Sith Lords. The concept is the same, the only thing changing is the storyline and that your team members will now also be able to change Alignment adding even more depth.
About Star Wars: The Old Republic. Star Wars: The Old Republic (TOR) is the third game in the series and is an online MMORPG similar to World of Warcraft (WoW). It takes place 500 years after the end of KOTOR II. The war is still raging on and a peace treaty was forced upon the Old Republic by the Sith. The Jedi have fled from Coruscant and have relocated to the ancient Jedi world of Tython, the planet where the Jedi supposedly originated. TOR has been announced to contain several classes. Sith and Jedi will obviously be among them. But another class has been revealed recently. The Bounty Hunter. For more information on this class I must refer you to the TOR site of which I will give you a link at the end of this article. Other than that, several planets have been revealed such as, Tython, the polluted Hutt homeworld of Hutta and Ord Mantell, war-torn world under official control by the Old Republic but actually ruled by criminals. The site also features a comic by Dark Horse that complements the game and can be read for free online.
